Marriage in New Testament verses

Mark 10:2

Some Pharisees came and tested him by asking, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?" 3) "What did Moses command you?" he replied. 4) They said, "Moses permitted a man to write a certificate of divorce and send her away." 5) "It was because your hearts were hard that Moses wrote you this law," Jesus replied. 6) "But at the beginning of creation God 'made them male and female.' 7) 'For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, 8) and the two will become one flesh.' So they are no longer two, but one. 9) Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate." 10) When they were in the house again, the disciples asked Jesus about this. 11) He answered, "Anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery against her. 12) And if she divorces her husband and marries another man, she commits adultery."

Luke 16:18

"Anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery, and the man who marries a divorced woman commits adultery."

Matthew 19:6

"So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate." 7) "Why then," they asked, "did Moses command that a man give his wife a certificate of divorce and send her away?" 8) Jesus replied, "Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard. But it was not this way from the beginning. 9) I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for marital unfaithfulness, and marries another woman commits adultery."

Biblical scholars believe the Gospel of Mark was written by a non-Jewish Christian outside of Palestine, while Matthew was an anonymous Jewish Christian writing towards the end of the first century. Jewish law allowed for divorce in the case of infidelity - the Gospel of Matthew adds the conditional verse (19:9), whereas Paul seems to agree with the earlier writings of Mark:

Romans (Paul) 7:2

For example, by law a married woman is bound to her husband as long as he is alive, but if her husband dies, she is released from the law of marriage. 3) So then, if she marries another man while her husband is still alive, she is called an adulteress. But if her husband dies, she is released from that law and is not an adulteress, even though she marries another man.

1 Corinthians (Paul) 7:10

A wife is not to depart from her husband. 11) But if she does, she must remain unmarried or else be reconciled to her husband. And a husband must not divorce his wife. 12) To the rest I say this (I, not the Lord): If any brother has a wife who is not a believer and she is willing to live with him, he must not divorce her. 13) And if a woman has a husband who is not a believer and he is willing to live with her, she must not divorce him.

The Bible and Homosexuality

Leviticus 18:22 "You shall not lie with a male as one lies with a female; it is an abomination."

Leviticus 20:13 "If there is a man who lies with a male as those who lie with a woman, both of them have committed a detestable act; they shall surely be put to death. Their bloodguiltness is upon them."

Romans 1:26 "For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, 27) and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error. 28) And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper."

1 Corinthians 6:9 "Or do you not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, 10) nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, shall inherit the kingdom of God."
